Discuss the basic questions that must be addressed in a sampling study. [6 Marks]
What is Sample?
Answer: A sample is a subset of population which represent whole population in the experiment.
Sometimes, it is difficult to conduct experiment in whole population. In this case, we take sample and conduct the experiment and assume that the result occure is true for whole population.
How to select sample size?
Answer: If the sample size is big, we get the most accurate results but big/large samples can be expensive and time consuming. Whereas small sample is less expensive and it takes less time consumptions but it is not so accurate. So depending upon the situation requirement i. e. minimum error and accuracy of prediction, large sample will be choosen. If in cases, more error can be tolerated, small sample will work.
What is sampling error?
Answer: During sampling process, some error may occure. These errors are systematic sampling error and random sampling error. Systematic sampling error is the fault of the investigation, but random sampling error is not. When the sample is not selected properly, systematic error can occure. In that case, sample is not truely represent the population. The random error can be occure purely by chance. Random error is the degree to which the sample is not perfectly representative of the population.
