In: Operations Management
12-27. In this chapter, you learned about four dimensions along which poor data might impact a business. For a company of your choice, such as a hospital, identify one or more scenarios that could serve as a good example for each type of impact.
4 Dimensions
Operational data are transient rather than historical.
Operational data are not normalized. Depending on their roots, operational data may never have been normalized or may have been denormalized for performance reasons.
Rather than being comprehensive, operational data are generally restricted in scope to a particular application.
Operational data are often of poor quality, with numerous types of inconsistencies and errors.
The data quality dimension is evaluated in the field hospital or any health care system. Hospital of good data quality totally depends on the accessibility of the quality data. If the documentation is for the data is inaccurate or the communication is not sufficiently established and then this will lead to mistakes and adverse events.
Evaluating each dimension of the pool data quality gives the following results :
External data sources :
If the collected data are inaccurate then it will put in danger the safety of patient and may results in the bigger price for bills, inadequacies and reduced monitory presentation. Further this will also misguide the doctors pr hospitals regarding the health of the patient and this will impact the performance of the hospital
Data entry Problems :
If the data is not entered correct then this will also lead to the danger to patients health. From the time of admission to the hospital till the discharge all the information of the patient should be timely updated and stored so that the proper measures should be taken during his treatment.
Redundant data storage and inconsistent metadata :
If the information of of the any patient is either not completely filled or the information of any patient is redundant then the proper measures cannot be taken and also the identification of patient and its disease cannot be interpreted.
The care should be taken that the information regarding any measures should be fully filled, stored and shared.
Lack of organizational commitment :
If all the measures are done properly then this measure will also be accurately achieved . But if any of the measure is improper then this will also give improper results. The consistency is measure of the accuracy and constantly accuracy of data stored .
