Does a manometer (with one side open) measure absolute pressure or gauge pressure? How about a barometer? A tire pressure gauge? A sphygmomanometer?
The difference between the absolute pressure and the atmospheric pressure is called as gauge pressure.
Pguage = Pabs - Patm
Here, Pabs is the absolute pressure and Patm is the atmospheric pressure. Manometer, barometer, tire pressure gauge and sphygmomanometer are the devices to measure the pressure. Manometer with one side open is used to calculate the difference between atmospheric pressure and the gas pressure. it is used to calculate the gauge pressure. Barometer is used to calculate the absolute pressure. A tire pressure gauge and sphygmomanometer are used to calculate the gauge pressure.
