ACA: Affordable care act
According to this act people who qualifies will get the health insurance at reduced cost. Adding to this consumer can buy the health insurance directly from the insurance company or from the licensed agents. State based health insurance exchanges offers certain kind of plans under this. There other private online marketplaces also offers many plans to choose from according to the individual's need.
How ACA works:
It helps consumer to to answer all the 3 types of questions they have like:
ACA offers the health insurance that covers all the essential helth benifits like maternity and newborn care, mental health and substance use care, prescription drug, rehablitative and habilitative services, laboratory services, preventative and wellness services, etc. if someone have bought a plan in 2014 but dose not go with the new guidlines given by the government then they have to buy the new plan.
minimum benifit levels with at least 60% benifits i.e under bronce plan and maximum up to 90% more over no such complicative questions for medical history and no leanthy waiting for this also gets tax credits by government in this this. government have made easy for to apply in the particular period in which the success rate to get its benifts maximum the first open enrollment was on October 1st, 2013 to March 1st, 2014 then by it is fixed from october 1 to december 31 in every year. and if you missed the open the enrollent and stay uninsured for more then 3 months then will get the tax penality.
Update on affordable care act - Oct. 23, 2015
1. the uninsured rate in US at the begning of the 2015 was 9.2% which is 7million lower than in 2014 and is first time lowerthan 10%.
2 goverment shows the projection of people expected to get insurance will be fall short then the previous one
3. The people still who are not byuing the plans is due to the cost of the insurance.
Upcoming challenges for ACA:
The mandate penality is unconstitutional so the congress's repeal of this. as mandate is the essential feature of the ACA and without this the law has no spccial value. an estimate of 17 million people may become uninsured due to this.
Repeal and replacement of ACA:
On may 4, 2017 the US house of repersentative voted to pass the American Health Care Act thereby the affordable care act repealed but the difference in the votes were very less i.e.; 217to 213.
