The keto diet (ketogenic diet ) is a medical nutrition therapy in which a special diet is prescribed for treatment of some specific conditions. It is composed of nutrients in the following proportions
Question: Does keto diet seem healthy?
Although, benefits of keto diet are documented in the treatment of epilepsy, obesity and type 2 diabetes ,it cannot be used as regular diet pattern of normal and healthy individuals owing to the following reasons
1. Keto diet may cause long-term adverse effects such as
· hepatic steatosis,
· hypoproteinemia,
· kidney stones,
· vitamin deficiencies.
· mineral deficiencies.
2. This dietry pattern is not suitable for individuals with some medical conditions.Examples are
· Pancreatic disorders- e.g pancreatitis,
· liver failure,
· disorders of fat metabolism,
· Metabolic myopathies –e.g primary carnitine deficiency,
· porphyrias
3. Sometimes,ketogenic diet produces a false positive breath alcohol test because acetone produced in the body is converted into isopropanol by hepatic alcohol dehydrogenase.
4.People with diabetes and on treatment with insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents can have severe hypoglycemia if the medications are not appropriately dosed before begining this diet therapy..

Do any of these fad diets seem appealing to you ?
None of these diets seems appealing since a fastest weight loss plan might seem like a good idea , but it is dangerous to our health than beneficial to it. Some reasons are given below
1. Dehydration-quick weight loss is due to rapid loss of water from our body .Hence it can lead to rapid dehydration.
2. Tiredness -fad diets deprives of calories leading to fatigue
3. It can cause digestive issues-e.g severe diarrhea, constipation
4. People suffer from malnutrition due to poor intake of micronutrients
