Can you tell us what the keto diet is and if you think this is a sustainable way of eating?
Keto diet
It is a term for high carbohydrate diet. The idea is to get more valocalo from protein & fat & less from CHO
Aim
To switch body primary fuel source from carbohydrate to fats, done by increasing consumption of fat & reducing CHO intake
Benefits
A keto diet is a high fat diet which appears to be benefit with some people with leprosy, especially in children. It is not magical cure but one alternative to various anti epileptic medications.
Improved seizure control
Improved mental alertness with fever medications
How it works
Carbohydrate |
Metabolised quickly for energy, Used eithiw few hours ( that's why we eat frequently ). |
Fat | Role is to store energy. If the CHO is not avsavaila fat is break down for fuel .Metabolised slowly, typically it will tsta a day. Here people feel fuller & no need to eat frequently |
Protein | To build & replenish body material, If there is no fat & CHO body will break down the muscle for energy |
So from the table we can understand that frequent eating can be avoided by taking a keto diet which includes more fat, thereby weight control can be done.
Here 4: 1 ratio is used i.e 4 times more fat than CHO & Protein
1 gram fat produce more than twice number of calories compared to CHO
So only need to consume limited quantity of food at a time.
SIde effects
The side effects of this diet pattern overrides the benefits, so it cabca be considered as a healthy diet. But in situations such as epilepsy, seizure etc it can be promoted as a therapeutic diet
It also cause nutritional deficiencies & risk of heart diseases as it is only giving importance to fat.
