Critique the following statement:

"The problem with our democratic institutions is that they don't correctly reflect the will of the people! If the people - rather than self-interested politicians or lobbyists - had control, we wouldn't have to worry about government taking actions that don't maximize allocative and productive efficiency.

Note, a critique is an evaluation of what was said. I want you to critique the thinking behind this particular statement. Tell my why it is or isn't a logical or rational argument. This is meant to be an argumentative essay where you state your position and then defend it.

Consumer behavior and criminal behavior, both focus upon the fulfillment of needs and wants that drive them to take decisions. Both the behavior, take initiatives to fulfill the interests and do what is best for the individuals. So, these two behaviors are similar in this way. Most people obtain goods in legal ways as these are the set guidelines to operate and exist in the society and in the economy at large. The society is regulated by societal norms that is broadly influenced by the government guidelines. Here, the freedom exists with the individuals, but it does not let one person to seize the freedom of another person. So, there is an important principle of coexistence that leads people to follow the norms and regulate their behavior. It brings peace, harmony and the economy grow.

Society has different following options to minimize the illegal behavior:

A. To bring strict guidelines and regulations with penal action to regulate the behavior of the individuals.

B. Educate people in the society and spread awareness regarding the benefits of lawful behavior and losses due to the unlawful and antisocial behavior.

C. Empower societies to bring social norms that prevent the development of behavioral tendencies that lead or criminal or unlawful behavior among people.

I don’t agree with the statement that people led governance will create best for everyone. In the democratic institutions, the members are elected by individuals of their area after following upon the promises and approach to the economic reforms. It means that it is the concern of the people, that is carried out by the politicians. On the basis of promises to work upon the concern, the politicians are elected. So, these elected members only carry the will of the people and take action. The next argument, is the rule of majority that never lets a policy that brings benefits to all the classes in the society. It is the majority of the vote that wins and policy is designed to favor those who are in majority. So, it is not the fault of the elected politicians, but the role of majority that cannot make everyone to be happy. The another argument is that people in the control seat, will form too many rules to create a proper governance. It will be a short term view that government does not care everyone in the economy. But, it is the systematic development with strict and painful decisions that brings long term growth to the economy. When economy grows, it benefits all the classes in the society provided they are the part of mainstream economy.
