Try to explain how the X-ray film works. Why the doctor forbids the patient wears metal product when X-ray film is taken. [120 words]

Solutions

Expert Solution

X-ray film consists of emulsion of silver halide. If it exposed to light it produces silver ion and electrons. The electrons get attached to the sensitivity specks and attract the silver ions and the silver ions attached and clumps of metallic silver (black) are formed .

A X-ray is incident on a body X-ray film is placed behind the body to get the image. Our body is made of bones and tissues and they have different density. When a X-ray is allowed to incident on the body then the bones absorbs more energy of X ray than the tissues since tissues have less density. Due to this differences in absorption and the corresponding varying exposure level of the film that creates the images which can clearly show broken bones, cancerous tissues, clogged blood vessels and other abnormalities.

Now doctor forbids the patient wears metal product when X-ray film is taken because when the X-ray is incident on a metal then accoding to photoelectric effect the metal emits electrons and hence generate current. In this way the patient may gets hurts.

I hope it will help you!
