Solutions

Expert Solution

As a doctor you find a patient that does not have hemoglobin. Please explain why you could not treat this patient with an infusion of myoglobin

because

haemoglobin can bind to 4 molecules of oxygen and Myoglobin bind to only 1 molecule of oxygen.in haemoglobin hemes are found in each subunit.

therefore myoglobin reversibly bind to one oxygen & haemoglobin can bind to 4 molecules of oxygen

they i.e. Hb & Mb have different biological functions.

Hb is used to trasport oxygen over large distances from lungs to tissues.

whereas Mb is present in muscle & behaves as a lcal storage reservoir of oxygen.

therefore patient can not be treated with infusion of mb.

18. Regarding the oxygen-hemoglobin dissociation curve, a patient suffering from a fever would have a hemoglobin saturation curve shifted to the of a normal hemoglobin curve as an increase in temperature causes affinity for oxygen. a. left // higher b. left // lower c. right // higher. d. right // lower. e. None of these—temperature does not affect hemoglobin’s affinity for oxygen.
