Prevent healthcare-associated pressure ulcers. (National patient safety goal)
Why do you think this goal is important to support patient safety? What could happen if this goal was not met?
1) The prevention of pressure sore is mandatory to meet and support patient safety.The pressure ulcers interupts the quality and comforts levels in an individuals life. This can even interfere with patient's functional recovery which ends up with pain, infection,,morbidity and reduce patient's length of stay.They cannot lead a positive life in the soceity. Moreover, treating pressure sore creates financial hardships to the organizations and most of the people cannot afford it.
The national patient safety goals are implemented for the welfare of the people by focusing on the problems and find solutions to solve it. This is also important to identify best practice to control the prevalence of hospital acquired pressure ulcers.
2) There will be lots of complications if the healthcare- associated pressure sore is not managed efficiently. One of the most serious complication can be sepsis occured due to the pressence of bacteria . The main factor which triggered was lack of blood supply to the cells which results in necrosis leads to infection, cellulitis and osteomyelitis. If the pressure sores left untreated,it is difficult to heal and even leads to death.
