Describe respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette appropriate for the healthcare setting

Respiratory hygiene or cough etiquette are focuses on prevention of spread of flu or any other communicable respiratory diseases,. It includes

• Cover nose or mouth with tissue while sneezing or coughing.

It is for preventing droplet infection. While sneezing or coughing the infected droplets will spread in air, and that will cause the infectikn to others. So it is very important for using of tissue on coughing or sneezing.

• Use a mask, when coughing

It is for preventing droplet infection. By contact with droplet, the others will get disease.

• Use disposable tissues and discard after use

This is important because, if same person using the same tissue also, the infected droplets will be in same tissue. So further use if same tissue will increase the chance of severity if infection.

• Use han dhygiene after having contact with respiratory secretions.

Whenever become contact with respiratory secretions, hand wash is very important. Because through the secretions, the infected particles will reach in hand, and by hand that will enters to nose and then respiratory tract. So further chance for infection. So it is important, do hand wash by sing soap and water.

In health care setting all health team members and patients also, these should follow to prevent respiratory infections.
