How does a nurse promote fairness and justice in the
face of disaster when life and death of the nurse is on the
line?
You can take the pro or con of the concept, but support your
response
NURSES are at the forefront of managing disasters in their communities and facilities. some researchers consider disater as a function of risk and they believe that a disater can be considered as serious disruption to the functions of a community or society aswell as incurring material, economic or envirinmental losses .In disaster situations it is essential that the victims are classified based on priority .therefore a place must be considered for keeping victims and doing triage.well equiped ambulance should also be used to move victims because improper transfer can cause more injury such as spinal cord, cardiac arrest ,or even death.
TO MAINTAIN FAIRNESS AND JUSTICE
In the health care agency setting ,if a disaster occurs ,the agency disaster prepardness plan is activated immediately and the nurse response by following the directions identified in the plan
In the community setting if the nurse is the first responder to a disaster ,the nurse cares for the victims by attending to the victims with life- threatening problems first;when rescue workers arrive at the scene ,immediate plan for triage should begin
IN THE EVENT OFA DISASTER ,ACTIVATE THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN IMMEDIATELY
TRIAGE THE VICTIMS FROM HIGHEST TO LOWEST PRIORITY
FOR EXAMPLE ,in an accident
1 confused and bright red blood pulsating froma leg wound -indicate arterial puncture
2 closed head wound and multiple trauma
3 sustained injuries
4 minor injuries -they are not life theratening
act according to three-tier system[categories of urgent ,non urgent ]
the nurse need to be familiar with the triage system
registered nurse should think about ethics .Registered nurse have an ethical obligation to put patients ahead of themselves. The nurses have a commitnment to help care for and protect their patients while also protecting their own right to self preservation and self care.Nurses need to be proactive to address such issues
