1.Who is benefiting from keeping a label and a category of poverty?
2. Is providing aid/government assistance helping? if so, how?
3. How can we help decrease poverty? come up with your own strategy to help the poor?
1] There are numerous people who benefit under the name pf poverty such as those people who aren't actually poor but like to represnt as poor in order to get all benefits of poor people, Poverty is not only a necessary constant but also a permanent feature of capitalism. With corruption and artificial scarcity endemic to capitalism any lasting solution to world hunger, poverty and inequality are going to be confronted with vested interests and the profit motive. Capitalism requires hunger, poverty and inequality so there’s a ready source of new wage slaves to be exploited. And if it were possible for capitalism to rid itself of these problems it would literally be cutting its own throat. Govenment employees also benefit under the name of poverty. They are exempted from taxes then they receive not only decent salaries but all kinds of assistance like food, medical etc in the name of poverty. No one deliberately sets out to keep poor people poor; rather, the poor simply suffer the collateral damage created by the efforts of interest groups to restrict competition that would threaten their own vested interests. Other persepective that puts a light on rich people. Rich people benefit from poverty too. As they say in order to become rich you have to keep others as slave. Basically everyone else benefits who isn't genuinely poor.
2] Govt provides various schemes and takes up initiatives to help poor people and that indeed helps poor people. Finance and banking related assistance like helping to open a zero balance bank accounts, free medical access, special provisions for girl child, Insurance schemes, Easy credit availability for education, food stamps etc. all these schemes are specially benefiting people who are below poverty line.Research has proven that people in working class but without college degree are lifted out of poverty by govt assistance. For eg.
While the odds are heavily against women owning land, a campaign launched by Landesa, a non-profit organisation that advocates for the land rights for women across different states in India, has helped to raise awareness on the issue.also
A total of 775 million students of all levels from pre-school up to university have benefited from China’s financial support since the country launched the nationwide student aid program in 2007.
The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a liberal policy-analysis group, found that in both percentage terms and absolute numbers, federal programs reduced poverty among working-age whites without a college degree more than they did among non-college-educated Hispanics, African Americans, or members of other races, and far more than they did among college-educated adults of any race.
2] 5 Tools to end poverty
1) Quality Eduaction
2) Access to Healthcare
3) Water and Sanitation
4) Economic Security
5) Child Participation
Other solutions to boost economic security would be
Create jobs, Raise minimum wages, Increase the Earned Income Tax Credit for childless workers, Support pay equity, Invest in affordable, high-quality child care and early education, Reform the criminal justice system and enact policies that support successful re-entry,
While there are so many NGO's, govt schemes, organisations are providing aid and assistance to poor people, if it properly reaches to those who are genuinely poor then it won't be very difficult to reduce poverty.
In my opinion, in order to reduce poverty instead of giving away all thehelp immediately it is important to create work, it is necesary to provide employment facilities for people so that they can earn on their own with little bit of govt aid but at least by exercising this measure, they will not exhaust all the free benefits they receive for being poor and remain inactive. This initiative will also help country to incease it's productivity and GDP. Govt needs to create sufficient employment facilities and also needs to reach to people are far below poverty line.
