Patient teaching to my hysterectomy patient will be as follows.
Hysterectomy is removal of uterus with or without cervix. Assuming that patient knows the reason for it explain how it will be done. Hysterectomy can be done abdominally or vaginally.
According to your medical record your planned procedure is any one of either. There will be scar on your body post operation.
You shall be under anesthesia during the procedure and shall regain consciousness soon after the procedure gets over.
I shall be assessing your amount of hemorrhage if present.
There will be catheter in situ an you will be on IV Fluids therapy.
Some pain management medication will be in your line of treatment.
Practise coughing and deep breathing exercise as follows.
Recovery will be faster if you try to ambulate yourself like through walking which is best.
You should avoid heavy lifting and stretching.
Also there should be no constipation.
Report if any complication persist post operatively post discharge.
