Many foods we consume are enriched with iron and calcium as well as Omega 3 fatty acids. Alpha-linolenic (omega-3) and linoleic acid (omega-6) are essential fatty acids. Good sources of omega-3 fatty acids are walnuts, canola oil, flaxseed oil, or fish oil. Omega-6 fatty acids are much easier to find as they are in many foods. Based on your reading in this chapter how important do you think enriched cereals or other products are to a healthy diet?

Around the world many are suffering micronutrient deficiencies .Fortified and enriched foods were intended to help boost vitamin and mineral intake with foods that adult and children were already eating like grains and milk .fortified foods are those that have nutrients added to them that donot naturally occur in the blood These foods are meant to improve nutrition and add health benefits .FOR EXAMPLE milk is often fortified with vitamin D and calcium may be added to fruit juices.

Enriched grains means that nutrients that were lost during processing are addedd back wheat flour for example may have folic acid ,riboflavin,and iron added back in after processing.This is intended to restore its original vitamin levels
