Ans. Differences between Omega 3 Fatty acids and Omega 6 Fatty acids
Omega 3 Fatty Acids -
Function :
1. It controls blood clotting and built a cellular membrane in the brain and enhances the function of the brain and joint.
2. It reduces the risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and also reduces inflammation.
Sources: Fish, vegetable oil, green vegetable such as kale, spinach, etc.
Omega 6 Fatty acids:
1. It also stimulates hairs and skin growth and regulates the metabolism of the body.
2. It also maintains healthy bones and reproductive systems. Omega 6 fatty acid increases inflammation.
Sources: Vegetable oils, nuts, and meat.
It is recommended that Americans should increase the intake of
Omega 3 fatty acids because Americans mostly intake more Omega 6
fatty acids comparatively Omega 3 fatty acids which could lead to
Cardiovascular problems and inflammatory conditions.
Also, Omega 3 fatty acids prevent strokes, eczema, and rheumatoid arthritis and protect against cancer.
Intake of Omega 3 fatty acid is beneficial because our body has the capacity to convert some ALA( Alpha Lipoic Acid) into EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) and then to DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), in a minute amount. Therefore, getting EPA and DHA from foods (and dietary supplements) is the only practical way to increase levels of these omega-3 fatty acids in your body.
