A person consume more than required garlic, herbal products, omega 3 fatty acids, fortified juice, organic milk. She is also taking aspirin. And now experiencing bruising. What questions a nurse can ask her so that her diet can be improved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease?

The nurse can ask the following questions to improve the diet of the patient, so that the risk for developing Cardiovascular disease can reduce:

* Do you have an idea about the food items that can worsen the side effects of the drug Aspirin.?

*Do you follow the dietary instructions while taking Aspirin?

In the answer patient may express her ignorance about the food that may interfere or increase the effects of Aspirin . Then the nurse can educate the client about the Aspirin interactions .

- Garlic can stimulate Antiplatelet effects, so it can trigger bleeding from capillaries, when it is taking in the diet in extra amount along with the drug Aspirin . As Aspirin also has blood thinning and Antiplatelet activities that promote anti coagulation or clotting. Bleeding from capillaries may manifest as bruices.

Many herbal products and Omega 3 fatty Acids are having Antiplatelet activities increase the risk of bleeding.

Juices especially from Citrus fruits can increase the acidity of stomach and may increase the risk of stomach ulcer.

Explain to the patient about Heart - healthy diet. A hert- healthy diet is A diet containing whole grain , fish , vegetables and fruits, low fat diary products and  nuts with less salt and sugar.
