If you think of the protein as a traveler, what kind of vehicle would best describe the sorting receptor: a private car, a taxi, or a bus? Explain your choice
Ans - If we think a protein as a traveler, sorting receptor will be a taxi.
any traveler (protein) can have fare for a taxi (sorting receptor) is taken to a jorney. traveller (protein) can reach to their activity site.
Realtion between a private car and a traveler is like they can move anywhere witout any fare. and different traveller can reach to same site by thier cars. but in reality there is a single sorting recpetor to enter in a particular membrane(ER, Nucleus membrane etc).
For bus, there will be number of other traveler that will reach the same site. but in reality only one traveler can cross a particular sorting recpetor at a time.
so taxi is a good analogy.
Protein targeting or protein sorting is the biological mechanism by which proteins are transported to their appropriate destinations in the cell or outside it. Sorting of proteins to their destined location in subcellular compartments is essential for proper cell function, and faulty protein sorting will result in cellular dysfunction and disease.
