1) After giving the medication and explaining the patient which medication, how, how much and when to take the medication. You can ask him/her to 'explain which medication, how, how much and when will they take the medication?'

2)Once you have explained to the patient about his/her medical condition and care to be taken. You can ask him/her "Can you please tell me what you understood regarding your condition, risks and steps to be taken care of?" or you could ask him/her "How would you explain your condition, risks and steps to be taken to your family members?"

3) After explaining the patient the procedure on how to use an inhaler or nebuliser. You could ask him/her to demonstrate how they would use the device.

This will help us be sure they understood what we said and will have a chance to correct if they misunderstood any information.
