(9)The welfare state is a concept of government in which the state plays a key role in the protection and promotion of the social and economic well-being of its citizens. It is based on the principles of equality of opportunity, equitable distribution of wealth, and public responsibility for those unable to avail themselves of the minimal provisions for a good life. The general term may cover a variety of forms of economic and social organization.
(10) Difference between welfare program and entitlement program:
Welfare is the provision of a minimal level of well-beingand social support for all citizens, sometimes referred to as public aid while an entitlement program is guarantee of access based on established rights or legislation. So they're not mutually exclusive. Social Security benefits meet both criteria. Food stamps (SNAP) benefits also. Temporary Assistance to Needy Families is not an entitlement in that there is also a requirement to look for work to be able to receive the benefits.
(11) Influencing public policy is just one purpose of an interest group. To accomplish this, interest groups help to educate the general public, as well as policy makers, on their issues. Interest groups also work within communities to help get individuals elected. They raise money for campaigns they support.
(13) Negative effects of interest group :
1. Interest groups may become too powerful. They may raise so much money and develop so much clout, that those who have fewer means to spread their message might not have their voices heard. Also, the interest group could put out information that is inaccurate, exaggerated, or half-true. If the public isn’t fully knowledgeable about the issue, they might believe what the group is saying as the truth when in reality it may not be the truth.
2. It can be argued that interest groups detract from our democracy. They help to create at least the impression of corruption because they donate money to politicians. They also help the rich to have more power than regular people because they use money to obtain access to political officials.
