The Importance of Health Research. Like privacy, health research has high value to society. It can provide important information about disease trends and risk factors, outcomes of treatment or public health interventions, functional abilities, patterns of care, and health care costs and use.

Demand for health care is characterized by the level of actual consumption of an individual incase of facing illness/injury, this consumption could differ in accordance with demand factors such as income, cost of care, education, social norms and traditions, and the quality and appropriateness of the services provided .

The causes of poor health for millions globally are rooted in political, social and economic injustices. Poor health, in turn, traps communities in poverty. Infectious and neglected tropical diseases kill and weaken millions of the poorest and most vulnerable people each year.

# Redundancy is a form of dismissal from a job role. It occurs when the employer no longer needs a particular job role or seeks to reduce the workforce.

The perceived quality of health care services was statistically and significantly associated with the patients' demand for health care services. As the quality of treatment increases, the probability of opting to public and private health care providers increases relative to self-treatment .

Reasons could include:

  • new technology or a new system has made your job unnecessary
  • the job you were hired for no longer exists
  • the need to cut costs means staff numbers must be reduced
  • the business is closing down or moving

If your employer is making fewer than 20 employees redundant in one establishment it is an individual redundancy.

If your employer is making 20 or more employees redundant in one establishment within a 90 day period it is a collective redundancy.

Collective redundancies generally occur when there is a:

  • business or building closure, meaning your employer no longer needs as many employees
  • reorganisation or reallocation of work
  • Relocation of work

Employers should always consult with you before making you redundant. The consultation should aim to provide you with a way to influence the redundancy process. The consultation will normally involve:

  • speaking to you directly about why you have been selected
  • looking at any alternatives to redundancy
  • applying dispute resolution procedures when required .

redundancy is unfair if you’re chosen at least partly because you:

  • asked for one of your rights at work - for example asking for minimum wage, holiday or maternity leave
  • took action about health and safety - for example making a complaint
  • are a whistleblower - you’ve reported your employer for doing something illegal
  • work part-time or are on a fixed-term contract
  • work in a shop and refused to work on a Sunday
  • are in a trade union or have been on an official strike
  • have been on jury service
