What is the purpose of the respiratory system
The process of respiration includes inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide. Both of this phenomenon occur through our nostrils. The oxygen which we inhale gets mixed with our blood making it oxygenated, which is further used by our cells to breakdown the nutrients in order to produce energy.
When we intake oxygen through our nostrils it reaches our lungs through wind pipe. The wind pipe is divided into two tubes which is known as bronchi. These tubes are further divided into many smaller tubes inside our lungs. These smaller tubes are having small air sacs at their ends. These sacs are known as alveoli. Alveoli are wrapped around by capillaries. The oxygenated air present in the alveoli deoxygenate itself by letting the oxygen seep through the capillaries in to main blood stream. The carbon dioxide present in the main blood stream mixes with the deoxygenated air and comes out when we exhale. In this way one cycle of respiration completes.
