Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans The bees are able to communicate by using sun in the various manner as listed below

  • Bees are able to communicate using for navigation by using as a reference point.
  • The movement and location of sun varies according to the location on earth, season and time of day. The position of sun with respect to time and latitude  can be explained by its ephemeris function.
  • The bees have adapted to this ephemeris function and uses the direction of sun to communicate for navigation and informing other bees for food, danger etc.
  • Once the bees return to hive they perform waggle dance at vertical position of honeycomb. They alternate between the right hand and left hand loops and waggle there abdomen side to side.
  • The duration of this dance represents the distance of the food. the location of food is measured by the angle between waggle and vertical position.
  • This azimuthal angle correspond with the angle between sun and location of food. They also uses the relative position of sun as a compass.
