One method of measuring the mass of a virus particle is to use a laser to measure the oscillation frequency on a thin silicon wafer that is 28nm long. Then you put a virus on the silicone wafer and measure the frequency again. We do not need to delve into how the actual the device looks like we can use the model of a mass of a spring to describe the physical process. The following data comes from an experiment, the mass of the silicone wafer was 2.12•10^-16g and the frequency was 2.04 ∙ 10^15?z without virus and with virus on the silicone wafer was frequency 2.86 ∙ 10^14?z.

Determine the mass of the virus particle.

One method for measuring the alcohol content of a liquid is to titrate the ethanol (C2H5OH) with chromate (CrO4^2-). These reagents react to become Co2 and Cr^+3 respectively. Write the balanced equation for this redoc process under acidic conditions. If a 1.86g sample of an alcoholic beverage is titrated with 25.93 mL of 0.250 M sodium chromate, what is the percent by mass of alcohol in this beverage?

Consider a particle of mass m confined to a one-dimensional box of length L and in a state with normalized wavefunction. For a partide in a box the energy is given by En = n2h2/8mL2 and, because the potential energy is zero, all of this energy is kinetic. Use this observation and, without evaluating any integrals, explain why < px2>= n2h2/4L2

An early method of measuring the speed of light makes use of a rotating slotted wheel. A beam of light passes through a slot at the outside edge of the wheel, as in the figure, travels to a distant mirror, and returns to the wheel just in time to pass through the next slot in the wheel. One such slotted wheel has a radius of 8.8 cm and 100 slots at its edge. Measurements taken when the mirror is L...
