Expert Solution

Public policy is the mechanism by which a country, by acts defined by its constitution, preserves order or meets the needs of its people. If this definition seems ambiguous or confusing, it is mostly that a public policy is not necessarily a concrete object, but rather a concept used by a legislative process to define a set of rules, mandates, or regulations.

For starters, there have been recent improvements to the health care system in the United States that now compel any person to have health insurance. The federal government came to the conclusion that this would be in the best interest of citizens after a number of hearings, tests, and study, and started drafting bills, insurance mandates, and other pieces of legislation to create a framework for how Americans receive health care services. In this legal and political process , a new public agenda has been developed that requires many distinct elements to support its purposes.

Since policy policies are in order to meet people's needs, they are often broken down as they contribute to society into various groups. It can give you an understanding of how public policy blends into each sector of society by looking at several examples of these divisions.

For example , health policy not only encompasses the insurance mandates mentioned above, it also encompasses all health-related policies of a social community. In the early 1980s, as the AIDS crisis arose, countries around the world had to formulate new strategies around how to treat the disease, what actions they might take to warn the public, and so on.

Its legal policy is another significant form of public policy in a country. The rules used to decide, among other aspects, what will be called a felony, how the felony will be handled, and who will be responsible for distributing the penalty are protected by legal policy. In most cases , for example, the act of homicide is a felony often punishable by a long gaol term or even the death penalty. Both examples of how a government reacts to an issue using state policies are the definition of homicide as a felony and the general penalty for the felony.
