ESSENTIALS & PRACTICE IN GLOBAL HEALTH NURSING
Recall the key differences in the burden of disease between males and females worldwide.
Describe the determinants of women’s health and how gender inequalities affect the health of females in different settings.
Discuss some of the most cost-effective investments that should be made to improve the health of women in low- and middle income countries.
Summarize the “three delays” and why they are important in maternal health.
DETERMINANTS OF WOMEN'S HEALTH: 1. Biological determinants
2. Behavioural and socio cultural conditions
3.environment 4.Socio economic conditions 5.Health
services 6.Ageing of population 7.Other factors
like human rights AFFECTS OF HEALTH OF
FEMALE DUE TO GENDER INEQUALITIES:
1.EDUCATION:womens's education is
one of the basic indicator of human development .Level of education
is less when compared to males if women is educated she can be good
at decision making and get higher
oppourtinities of participating in working life .They can have
significantly higher access to and use of healthcare services.
2.BIOLOGICAL DETERMINANTS:Differential genetic vulnerability to
illness ,reproductive and hormonal factors and difference in
physiological characteristics during the life cycle .Until recently
male model of health was used for clinical research and findings
were generalized for women except for reproductive period .Clinical
trails typically excluded women to protect them and their unborn
children from negative effects .
3.SOCIAL DETERMINANTS :Social factors like women excluded from
schooling or from participation in public life affect their
knowledge about health problems and how to prevent and treat them
.
4.ECONOMIC DETERMINANTS:Gender difference in economic roles strongly influence mental health outcomes
COST EFFECTIVE INVESTIMENTS TO IMPROVE WOMEN HEALTH : 1.ERADICATE EXTREME POVERTY AND HUNGER:Improving the nutritional status of women is key to their health and welll being. 2.PROMOTES GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWER WOMEN:Empowering women reduces poverty and improves health of families . 3.IMPROVE MATERNAL HEALTH:The majority of women are dying from a preventable causes for which highly effective interventions are known. 4.COMBAT HIVOR AIDS ,MALARIA AND OTHER DISEASES:Many women still die needlessly due to theses diseses so they have to be prevented. 5.ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINBILITY:Sustainable access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation is most critical for is basic health and safety of women 3 DELAYS IN MATERNAL HEALTH : 1.Deciding to seek care 2.Identifying and reaching health faculty 3.Receiving adequate and appropriate treatment . they are important in maternal health beacuse it gives an integrated approach where we can reduce the maternal mortality rate by improving the delays .
