Assume that you are working in a community health department. The department has some federal money that it wants to allocate to two health promotion programs from the following:
Decrease in deaths from cardiovascular disease
Decrease in deaths from breast cancer
Decrease in teenage pregnancy
Decrease in cigarette smoking
Decrease in incidence of diabetes
Decrease in motor vehicle accidents
Decrease in osteoporosis and hip fractures among women
Decrease in obesity
Address the following questions:
Identify the risk factors associated with the selected health promotion programs.
What is the target population associated with the selected health promotion program? Consider the hypothetical target population, consisting of middle-aged women, male adolescent gang members, premature infants, etc., and describe the characteristics of each program.
What are the risk factors that you want to focus on in order to achieve the objective of the health promotion program?
What intervention would you recommend to be most appropriate to reduce exposure to these risk factors? You can choose at what level of intervention you want to implement each program (primary, secondary, tertiary health intervention).
What will be the process by which this intervention will achieve the goal of the program?
What will be the anticipated outcome of this intervention?

*Risk factors associated with the selected health promotion
programs are:
*Decrease in deaths from Breast cancer
- women aged 50 and older are more risk group
-genetic mutations-those who have family history
*Decrease in motor vehicle accidents
-teeenage drivers who are inexperienced
-drivers who uses cell phones while driving
*Target population:
-women 50 years and older
-women with family history of breast cancer
-teenage drivers
-drivers who use cellphone during driving
*Characteristics of Decrease in deaths from breast cancer: it
includes health assessment, finding out the risk women, giving health
education on breast cancer and early detection through self breast
examination.
*Characteristics of Decrease in motor vehicle accidents: it
includes finding out the teenage drivers, educating them regarding
the common causes for motor vehicle accidents and how to prevent
.
*risk factors to be focused in order to achieve the objectives of
the health promotion program are ,
-regular monitoring of the women 50 and older and with family
history of breast cancer
-finding the cases of teenage rude drivers and drivers who caught
while speaking on cellphone during driving.
INTERVENTIONS TO REDUCE EXPOSURE TO THESE RISK FACTORS ARE:-
1.Health education to women who are 50 and closer to 50 on
prevention of breast cancer.
primary interventions-health education on self breast
examination
secondary interventions-screening and early detection
tertiary intervention-appropriate treatment and prevent
disability
2.health education to teenage population on hoe to reduce
accidents.
primary interventions-health education on road safety and
prevention of accidents
secondary interventions-strict traffic rules not to drive being
inexperienced and speaking on cell phone,
tertiary intervention- filtering the cases of teenage/inexperienced
drivers who speaks while driving and giving counselling to them
regarding accidents .
Process of intervention to achieve the goal of the program
1.set the priorities
2.choose the best option
3.implement
4.evaluate the results
5.if goals are unmet, choose next option
*anticipated outcome will be the achievement of the goal at certain stage definitely.
