Assume you are working at UN, at a department advising countries
on policies to reduce gender inequality. Write a policy states
around the world may use in order to prevent or reduce gender
discrimination in the labor market and explain it
As we all know the gender equality is a fundamental human right. Moreover it is also reasonable requirement in economics because the equality assists in using the human capital of a country in more efficiently, and it benefits not just women or men, but also the whole society. However it does not mean that all men and women employees should be treated the same. It is logical that they can be of different backgrounds, ages, areas of specialization, etc. thus should be treated differently. The main concern is about the same level participants (having same background, specialization, etc.) of one of the above mentioned fields. In order to prevent this discrimination remove gender inequality; the equity requires greater and more equal access to employment and productive resources, and macroeconomic policies that sustain and promote full employment. Defending public expenditures against austerity measures can also be helpful in promoting gender equality. Gender-responsive fiscal policy is needed to reduce women’s domestic and care work burdens and enhance the distribution of unpaid work between women and men, with a target to facilitate women’s participation in paid employment. Also gender-equitable and good-quality public sector employment is important too. Furthermore the projects of government should be designed in a gender-sensitive approach and evaluated for gender-equitable results. Gender-responsive monetary policy requires that policies prevent negative consequences for low-income categories particularly women. It is vital to make monetary policy sensitive to gendered employment, especially in economic downturns, could support the employment of women.
