You are working with a community project that is looking to identify health risk factors in middle school students. As a part of this project, you are tasked with collecting body composition assessments from 80 middle schoolers. What method(s) of body composition would you choose and why? Be detailed and specific when explaining/defending your choice
Answer : The most basic method ,and the most common, is BMI. Doctors can easily calculate BMI from the heights and weights they gather at each check up .This is the most practical way to evaluate the degree of excess weight. It correlates with body fat and is relatively unaffected by height. BMI is a good predictor of adiposoty in the children population. It varies with according to age and gender and also varies a lesser extent with pubertal maturation stage and ethnicity and these factors should be taken into account when BMI measures are used for research .BMl helps to measure the obesity in children . advantages : 1) It is less expensive 2) It is easy to calculate 3) It correlates with correct body fat levels so we get accurate report 4) almost 100 studies have shown that BMI body composition assessment helps to detect chronic disease conditions early .With the metric system , the formula for BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared .
