1)After treating some cells with a compound and examining the mRNA levels and the protein levels in the cell, what is a possible reason that mRNA levels and protein levels won't coincide?
A.The promoter is turned on more.
B.The mRNA transcripts degradation is being inhibited.
C.Protein levels equal mRNA levels.
D.None of the above
2)Which of the following is different between prokaryotes and eukaryotes?
A.Prokaryotes are polycistronic and eukaryotes are monocistronic
B.Prokaryotes have more complex controls over gene expression than eukaryotes
C.mRNA only exists in eukaryotes.
D.DNA does exit in prokaryotes.
3) I (you, the test taker) contain an 80S ribosome?
A.True
B.False
ANSWER- According to me the appropriate answer should be (d) i.e none of the above.
EXPLANATION- However there are various reason why the mRNA level is different from protein level. It would may be due to
1-not proper cotranscriptional or post transtriptional modification of mRNA. Because improper capping and tailling lead to breakdown of mRNA.
2-Similarly, in some cases the RNA editing leads to formation of early stop of translational process leading to formation of short polypeptide then assume to form from a full mRNA sequence.
3-also the half life of protein is also responsible for protein degradation.
ANSWER-ANSWER-The difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes is prokaryotes have polycistronic mRNA while eukaryotes have monociatronic mRNA.
EXPLAINATION- Polycitronic mRNA means mRNA contain several genes which translated into several protein while in eukaryotes the mRNA contains only that genetic information which leads to translation of only one gene.
ANSWER- If I'm the test taker then I must contain 80s mRNA.
EXPLAINATION- It is because I am an eukaryotes organism and as every eukaryotic organism I have also 80s ribosome which are form from 2 subunits i.e one larger subunit(60s) and one smaller subunit(40s). Every eukaryotic organism posses 80s ribosome in their cytoplasm.
