Describe the five major categories of complementary therapies
Complementary medicine includes therapeutic disciplines as well as diagnostic which is used along with conventional medicine.It is otherwise called integrative medicine and is divided into five main categories
-Sensory,Cognitive,Expressive,Physical and Medical systems
1. Sensory Complementary medicine-As the name suggests it is based on senses and it includes
Aroma therapy-During massaging oil enters into the skin pores or through nose and influences the hypothalamus which triggers hormones .
Landscape theory-When landscape images are shown to the patients ,their mind becomes calm.
Music Therapy-Listening to or singing along with music calms the mind and body.
Massage-Massaging at bodys specific nerve points ,act as a stimulant and helps in relieving stress.
Acupuncture-Acupuncture is a conventional medice of the people of China,whereby they stick needles which helps in promoting endorphins which helps in feeling well.
2.Cognitive - It uses positive thoughts to create well being.It includes
-Guided Imagery-it is a therapy in which the patient is asked to visualize a positive image.
-Hypnotherapy-is same as that of guided Imagery
-Meditation
-Relaxation and Deep breathing
3.Expressive Therapies.-therapy in which patient is asked to express their thoughts.
it includes Psychotherapy and Counselling
4.Physical Complementary medicine -it is a physical form of therapy and includes Physical excercise and Yoga
5.Medical systems -when an alternative medicine or non-traditional medicine has been added to western medicine
