corticosteriod are the steroids that are found naturally in humans body or man made, its an anti-inflammatory medicine.

* Classification:

1) Glucocorticoids: such as corticol which effects fats and carbohydrates and has anti-inflammatory effects.

2) Mineralocorticoids: such as aldesterone, which is mainly involve in balancing and regulation of electrolyte.

* Uses:

They are used in treatment of:

1) Asthama

2) Allergy and hay fever

3) Atopic eczema

4) IBD

5) Painful and inflammed joints.

*Mechanism of action of drug:

Through the passage of the cell membrane, this drug reacts with the receptor protein present in the cytoplasm and forms a steroid- receptor complex. The complex further moves to the nucleus and binds to DNA. This binding process then changes tanscription of messener in to RNA. It can stimulates or inhibit the synthesis of protien.

The drug takes 5 days to show their effects and can cycle out within three weeks from the system.
