Discuss the type of leadership style, transactional, transformational, visionary and servant, that occurs in your specific professional environment. List the positive and negative outcomes that exist as result of the leadership approach used.
Transactional leadership: This type of leadership style mainly focus on supervision, organization and performance. In this leaders promote compliance of the employees through rewards and punishment. It is responsive and works within the organizational culture. It can be useful during crisis and emergency.
But the cons of this type of leadership style is that it is more of a managerial style. It does not agree with making changes and focus on employees work to find facults and defects.
Transformational leadership: It is proactive that works to change the organizational culture by implementing new ideas. It motivates the employees to put group interest first rather than self-interest. This type of leadership is concered with the concerns, strengths and weakness of each and every employees.It promotes creactive and innovative ideas to solve problem. The leader assign task which will enhance their work performance.
The cons of this leadership style is ineffective in initial stage, requires an existing structure to fix, bad fit in bureaucratic situations.
Visionary leadership: A visionary leader looks always to future in every facet of job, engage employees by sharing their own optimistic views. These leaders promote innovation, creativity and learning in all efforts towards attainment of a common goal. In crisis situation when employees loose their sight to company's goals, these leaders motivate their employees and helps to regain back their insight and keeps them in team spirit.
The cons of this type of leadership is that as its vision oriented, the leaders may remain too focussed on future but may not make essential efforts to act for attainment of the goals.
Servant leadership : As the anme itself suggest, its a type of leadership where the first preference is for the servants. It considers the needs of the employees first, commits to help employees to develop expertize and improve performance. It insist that the organization make positive contributions to the society. This style helps to gain the employees trust and develops a positive corporate culture.
The cons of this type of leadership is it takes time to achieve positive goals, its vastly overrated and gender discriminatory. This style may not be applicable in every situation.
