Some states have recently begun to implement new voter ID laws that require a photo ID in order to vote, while others are loosening requirements and allowing people to vote with little or no proof of identification. The League of Women Voters is currently suing 3 states for requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote. What do you think about this? Should you have to prove you are a citizen in order to register to vote? Should voter ID cards be required when voting? Should they include photos?
Exercise of the voting rights is an important part of the electoral process and the state government should ensure that:
1. All eligible voters of the state should vote and their vote should not be stolen by any other person.
2. One person already exercised the voting rights in one jurisdiction, should not vote again in the same election in another jurisdiction.
3. Illegal immigrants who are not eligible for the vote, should not participate in voting.
4. The voter should have the required age.
Above guidelines are applied to make electoral process free from any malpractices and it requires regulations in the form of showing an ID proof to vote to help regulate the voting process in the election. So, it is good that states are coming up with laws, requiring voters to come up with an ID proof, so that no one can vote in the name of any other one. It should not be a problem for citizens as it is for their own benefits as their voting rights will not be misused.
Only citizens can vote, so it is important to show a proof of being a citizen. Not doing so, electoral results can be rigged and affected as there are many illegal immigrants also in the state that can affect the results. Here, the government should setup teams and self help groups that can work in each society and enroll new eligible citizens and prepare their own ID proof and or voter ID card so that new voters can be added to the voter list.
Yes, it is should include photos to make an identification of the voter with the name and other credentials. It will help to ensure that voting rights of one person cannot be used by another person.
