What are the consequences of implementing Voter ID laws in Texas? Do you believe that they would disproportionately affect minorities?
The U.S voter ID law aiming to prevent electoral frauds and to
increase public confidence on soundness of the electoral system.
This law has been largely criticized as it is discriminatory and to
suppress the economically and politically weaker section.
The new strict voter ID laws in Texas is primarily discriminatory
and here are large number of consequences to the newly implemented
state law as there are more than 4.5% of population doesn't have a
valid photo ID card.
The critics allege that it is a vote bank politics and a well
planned move to keep away minorities and weaker section from
electoral system.
The supporters of the Voter ID laws argue that this law can prevent
the electoral frauds at the ballot box. According to this law it
mandates that the most of the voters must show any of seven forms
of valid photo-ID card.
This law is obviously discriminating minorities in Texas as the
state is a Majority- minority population with rapid Hispanic
population. This law will adversely effect the Hispanic black and
poor people, because these low income community are less likely to
have driving licence, hand gun license and etc.
