The process of breaking down of larger insoluble food molecules into small soluble molecules which can be absorbed and utilised for life process is called digestion. Digestive sysytem include organs starting from mouth to organ for removal of waste. The process of digestion occur in 5 stages

1.ingestion- occur in mouth

ingestion is the entry of food into alimentary canal. Food chewed in mouth mixes with salivary enzymes break some carbohydrates and lipids here.

2. propulsion- occur in in pharynx and esophagus

It refers to movement of food through digestive tract from oral cavity, and into stomach. It iclude swallowing and peristalsis

3. Digestion- occur mainly in stomach and small intestine

gastric juice in stomach promote chemical digestion. When the digested food from stomach reaches small intestine it mixes with digestive enzymes in liver and pancrease

Involve mechanical and chemical process (both starts in mouth)

4.absorption- Occur in small intestine

The digested food taken into epithelial cell of intestine and then absorbed into blood stream.

5.defecation- large intestine

involve removal of undigested food and waste
