How many milliliters per hour will you set the IV pump for the maintenance dose?

Solutions

Expert Solution

First of all we need to calculate loading dose of drug for patient weighing 50 kgs

5.6mg x 50kgs per 30 minutes

=280mg/30 minutes

For 1 hour dose becomes double.

So that loading dose of aminophylline for person weighting 50 kgs per hour = 280mgs x 2 = 560mgs

Available drug dose is 500 mg in 500 ml of D5W. So that each ml contain 1mg of drug.

Patient requires 560mg per hour which means 560ml of D5W

Maintenance dose:-

0.6mg x 50kgs per hour

=30mg/hour

So that you have to administer 30ml of D5W per hour
