What is the drip rate?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The amount of fluid to be infused = 250 ml

Total time to infuse = 4 hours 15 minutes

                                                = 4*60 minutes+ 15 minutes

                                                = 240 minutes + 15 minutes

                                                = 255 minutes

                  Drop Factor = 12 gtt/ min

IV Flow rate ml / hr = Volume ml

                                                               Time in hours

= Volume * 60 / Time * 60 ( the time is to be converted in to minutes for easy calculation and should be multiplied and divided by 60 )

                                                           = 250 ml * 60 / 255min

                                                           = 15000 / 255

                                                           = 58 .52 ml / hr

Drip rate   = millilitres per hour * drip factor / minutes

                                                           = 58 .52 * 12 / 60

                                                           = 11.7

                                                            = 12 drps per minute ( round)
