MAWDS in heart management is a exclusive self-management therapy which is most important and most effective in managing any kind of ailments. In management of heart diseases it would act much better and in better fashion.
MAWDS stands or M – medication on time, A – activity, W – weight management, D – diet, S – symptoms identification at earliest.
MAWDS management therapy in heart patients is very vital and it is need for the day and it should be understood and taught by the health care workers when discharging the patient.
M – Medications on time: goal of medications is to improve symptoms and to try to prevent progression of the disease. The medications are also meant to be given on time it is very important to strengthen the heart, to reduce fluid retention and to improve the quality and length of life while reducing the risk of hospitalization. Organisation of a schedule and charting according to the schedule, regular marking of medications and their time as well as dosage to be taken would become important to be followed. Medical appointments and medical regime also plays a important role in maintaining the patients’ health.
A - Activity: activity can be seen as exercise, a regular according to the ability would make one active, thus helping to keep the body strong, mental strengthen and your heart works in sound body, reduce the symptoms leading to disease. start with walking, and improve to swimming, biking and other cardio activities.
W – Weight management - a rapid increase or decrease in weight is very dangerous in humans and it would lead to heart failure or vital organs to be failed. Fluid retention and the more fluid your body builds up the more dangerous it is as it would lead to failure of vital organs. Hence, weight has to be checked regularly and seen if there is any alteration in weight.
D – Diet – a good diet plays a vital role in the health, the most important thing to be kept in mind that amount of salts should be reduced, fluids should be planned and taken according to the dietician advice, alcohol or any sugar beverages should be avoided. A balanced diet rich in fibre, proteins and other nutrition should be followed.
S – symptoms to be identified – the symptoms that need to be reported are shortness of breath at rest or when laying down, chest pain, pressure in chest, abnormal bloating, swelling of legs, weight gain and weight loss, facial puffiness.
