Critical Thinking
a) Discuss two concepts that you have found interesting about Marx that you agree with.
b) How would you apply them to understand some events that you have observed? How would you improve these concepts?
c) Discuss two concepts from Marx that you do not agree with.
d) Provide evidence or reasoning for your disagreement.
A) Marx has given theories about capitalism and communism which is known as Marxism. In this theory, the Marx has told about the societal class conflicts i.e. business owners and labourers. He believes that the conflict between the upper classes control the entire production activities. and the labourer class is suffering to get return of wages due to upper class dominance. And capitalism lead to the new system as socialism. He said that the working class should organise a revolutionary action to terminate capitalism and bring out the socialism. Because labour builds a nation but they do not own any claim on the means of production, the finished products and in the profit generation. They only work for the money wage. And due to this disparity, capitalists rule on the workers. It is really a good thought to make a balance between upper class and lower class. Because they both are the important pillars of the society.
B) In today's world, the migrant workers are facing a lot because they do not have sufficient work in their area and they need to go to other area to find a suitable job and the upper class start to dominate as they have the authority to make their work done by the labourers.
There should be a cordial relation between the employer and employee. They need to focus on the delibrate efforts made by both parties because authority make policies, rules and regulations and the agenda of the entire process. And a labourer puts all his efforts to make maximum output. Labour only work for his real wage. So, to cop up with the societal norms, there must be a specified guidelines for the entire production activities.
C) Classical Marxist theory is economically deterministic. Marx argued that the "economic laws" determines the shape of society. Different society reacts differently in the Capitalism case while others have taken a social democratic line . So, both capitalist and socialist behave in their traditional thought even though it is changed now. Like china has developed a form of autocratic- capitalism while other countries has rejected and accept the socialist democratic line. And there are many more sociologists would argue that Marx's grand theorising about the world is o longer relevant.
D) There are many changes that had happened in the past centuries.
Due to disparity, number of people are losing their jobs and ready to work on less wages. But at present, scenerio has changed.
The communist revolutions in Eastern Europe did not lead to greater equality and freedom as Marx would have hoped. There is less alienation in the modern companies. The relationship between the authority and labourers are changed today which led to get the growth of a company production structure.
At present, Capitalism is less exploitative. As in the western nations and in developing countries there is an extensive middle class which invested the corporations and failed the thought of Marx . Workers have a lot more say because of unionisation and enlightened management techniques. And almost four million people who re self employed and controlling the terms and conditions of their working lives.
So, we can say that the approach of Marx theory is now changed. And number of laws and policies have been framed to maintain the social balance between the capitaism and socialism.
