1.long time diabetes can cause damage to the vascular system which can cause many other conditions like heart attack,stroke and problem with eye ,feet ,nerves. The incidence and prevalence of diabetes is increasing.
2.population affected by diabetes in India is around more then 60million the the prevalence of 9% in urban area and 3% in rural area. Around 1 million of people die of diabetes per year.
3. Social and cultural factors affect diabetes like due to increasing the health care cost, employment complication and educational factors.
4.an inverse relation between economic status and diabetes prevalence is seen most commonly.
Diabetes increase the economic burden on the health care unit because it is the most costly chronic disease.
5.diabetes prevalence is increasing progressively and it is also very costly disease for the middle class families. The Government has come with the programmes like National programme for control and prevention of diabetes,cardiovascular disease and stroke is expanding in some states and will further spread in whole country. Its main aim is for the reduction and early diagnosis and management of diabetes.
6. Stakeholders and organizations helps in promoting the self management support for diabetic patients. Stakeholders meet the patient in person and They provide disease and lifestyle management programmes.
7. Intervention can be at any level like at self level or health care providers level. Intervention at own level include taking medication on time,diet,exercise and appropriate use of health care services.
Nurse should stress over to follow the prescribed treatment programme,medication,diet etc.
