WHAT IS MEANT BY ULTRASONIC CLEANER: It is a process that uses an ultrasound and an appropriate cleaning solvent to clean the items. It can be used with a) water or b) a solvent. The solvent have much more cleaning effect than the water. Ultrasonic cleaning does not sterilize the objects being cleaned, because spores and viruses will remain on the objects after cleaning. HOW TO PROCEED AN ULTRASONIC CLEANER USING A DISINFECTANT: An ultrasonic cleaner is an ideal tool for the first step in the process to protect medical personnel and patients from possible infection using a disinfectant after a procedure. THE ULTRASONIC PRINCIPLE: Ultrasonic cleaners work on the principle of cavitation. Then they emplode with violent force when they come in contact with objects placed in the solution and remove the contaminants without damaging the objects. Pre-preparation by washing and wiping of instruments using a disinfectant namely enzyme soak is needed to remove cross contamination before they dry. Finally, use brushes to clean the cannulated instruments. Deionized water are used as a disinfectant in hospital setup to rinse the ultrasonic cleaner to avoid spotting.
