Describe and expain in detail all of the specific nutrient needs during Pregnancy to include energy, energy nutrients, viamins and minerals. Be spesific.
NUTRIENTS NEEDS DURING PREGNANCY
1. ENERGY:- Additional 300 calories requured in second and third trimester.
2. PROTEIN :- it is critical for ensuring the proper growth of
fetal tissues.
- protein also helps with breast and uterine tissue growth during
pregnancy.
3. CALCIUM:- Ca helps build baby’s bones and regulates mother's
use of fluids.
- the recommended dietary intake of calcium per day for pregnant
women over 18 is 1000 mg.
- Calcium in combination with Vitamin D are complementary in
maintaining bone health.
4. FOLATE :- also called as folic acid.
-it is important in reducing the risk of neural tube defects(that
affect the baby’s brain and spinal cord).
-RDA of folate is 600-800 mg per day.
5. IRON :-
- It helps ensure that enough oxygen is supplied to both mother and
baby.
- along with sodium, potassium, and water to increase blood
circulation.
-Pregnant women need 27 milligrams of iron a day.
6. VITAMINS:-
(i) vitamin A :- required for healthy skin, eyesight, and bone
growth.
(ii) vitamin C :-Promotes healthy gums, teeth, and bones, and helps
your body absorb iron.
(iii) vitamin D:- helps in the absorption of calcium to help build
your baby’s bones and teeth.
(iv) vitamin B6:- help in production of RBCs and help in use of
protein, fat, and carbohydrates.
(v) vitamin B12:- Helps form red blood cells and maintains nervous
system.
