3. In detail, describe an ectopic pregnancy. In your narrative, be sure to answer the following:
-What causes an ectopic pregnancy to occur?
-Is an ectopic pregnancy viable?
-What treatments/procedures are necessary in the case of an ectopic pregnancy?
Ans:-
Ectopic pregnancy :-
A pregnancy in which the fetus develops outside the uterus, typically in the fallopian tube.
1.
causes of an ectopic pregnancy are as follows:-
- An infection or inflammation of the fallopian tube can cause it to become partially or totally blocked.
- Scar tissue from a previous infection or a surgical procedure on the tube may also impede the egg's movement.
-Previous surgery in the pelvic area .
2.
Ectopic prgenancy is typically not viable, very rare a live baby has been delivered from an abdominal pregnancy because in such a case the placenta situates on the intra-abdominal organs or the peritoneum and has found sufficient blood supply. So, in very rare condition ectopic pregnancy remains viable, otherwise generally its not viable.
3.
Treatments/procedures for the ectopic pregnancy are as follows:-
1. Medical treatment :- An early pregnancy without unstable bleeding is most often treated with medicine Methotrexate. Methotrexate stops cell growth and dissolves existing cells.
2. Surgical treatment :- If bleeding has already occurred then surgical intervention may be necessary.
In surgical interventions two procedures are used :-
- Salpingostomy( create a small incison into the affected fallopian tube to remove the product of conception)
- Salpingectomy ( surgical removal of fallopian tube with the product of conception).
both are laproscopic surgeries.
