What is one specific, concrete step a nurse leader can do today to incorporate more cultural awareness and acceptance into their organization?
Nurses are the people who meet and care people of different backgrounds everyday.Nurses are there in every corner of the world, where hospital exist and where care is needed.Cultural competence in healthcare basically is our ability bto provide care to patients with diverse backgrounds, values and behaviours.Key to such patient centred care is the ability to engage and educate people about their health needs and how to address them."Be observant, and recognise your world view may differ from that of your patient," Lincoln says.In addition to providing healthcare, cultural competence also can provide social and business benefits for providers and the community as a whole.Besides reducing medical errors, enhancing data collection and improving preventive care among patients.Culturally competent care includes knowledge, attitudes, and skills that support caring for people across different languages and cultures.Culture influences not only health practices but also how the healthcare provider and the patient perceive illness.
