The main 5 Sensory systems in our body are us follows
1.Visual system
2. Auditory system
3.Tactile system
4. Olfactory ( smell) system
5. Gustatory ( Taste) system
1.VISUAL SYSTEM
The main function of the visual system is vision and the vision is controlled by the occipital lobe of the brain.Sensory information are received from the retina through the thalamus and it is encoded, these visual information includes the size, color, motion and orientation .From occipital lobe these information goes to parietal lobe to process the information .
2.AUDITORY SYSTEM
This system is responsible for the hearing function. Auditory cortex is located in the superior temporal gyrus which is responsible for processing the sound frequencies and the language comprehension is by the wernicke 's area in the brain.
3.OLFACTORY SYSTEM
This is responsible for processing of smell .Olfactory bulb is located in the brain and it transmits information to the brain from the nose .Olfactory bulb is also responsible for discriminating among odors , arousal and attention.
4.GUSTATORY SYSTEM
This system is concerned with the taste sensation .It helps to distinguish between different taste sensations. The primary gustatory cortex is located within the lateral sulcus and controls the taste sensation.
5.TACTILE SYSTEM
This system is responsible for touch sensation in the body. The body send tactile impulses through the neural pathways into the spinal cord. The primary somatosensory cortex is located in the parietal lobe of the brain is dealing with the touch sensation.
These are the major 5 sensory systems in the human body.
