Research Question:
How do Muslim women's internalized views of religion, science, modesty, and reproductive healthcare inform the decisions of their American born female children to mammograms for breast cancer?
Hypothesis:
American born female children of a Muslim mother will be less likely to seek out mammogram screening for breast cancer.
Please help me with my research question by helping me with these questions.
A. Describe the preliminary framework that should be used in this proposed research design.
B. What should I use qualitative or quantitative? and why? please be specific.
C. Provide some details about what the variables will be (quantitative) or your interview questions might be (qualitative).
The experiences of Muslim women vary widely between and within different societies. At the same time, their adherence to Islam is a shared factor that affects their lives to a varying degree and gives them a common identity that may serve to bridge the wide cultural, social and economic differences between them. Similar to other countries, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women with increasing incidence and mortality rates. High mortality rates of breast cancer in Muslim women are primarily due to delayed diagnosis of the disease. The American Cancer Society guideline for the early detection of breast cancer might benefit from additional screening strategies beyond those offered to women at average risk, such as earlier detection, shorter screening intervals and using new modalities like breast ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). They also recommended the decisions about the screening options for women at significantly increased risk of breast cancer be based on shared decision and the degree of uncertainity. In this research design, qualitative method is better used than quantitative analysis based on the understanding with human behavior from the informant's perspective. In addition to this, qualitative method is used to collect data through participant observation and interviews. A variable is defined as anything that has a quantity or quality that varies. The quantative variables in research design will manipulate an independent variable in an effort to understand its effect on the dependent and controlled variables.
