You have been asked to identify a vaccine-preventable disease... You are a public health researcher. You have been asked to identify a vaccine-preventable disease. Your research design should focus on determining why health care workers are not receiving the vaccination for your selected vaccine-preventable disease in their place of employment.
The presentation should also include the following:
Researched and identified the disease to create a research plan
An introduction and synopsis of the selected disease
History of the public health issue or disease
Social or behavioral antecedents related to the disease
Epidemiological relevance of the disease
Proposed research design
Sampling plan
Strengths and weaknesses of chosen research design
*Vaccine preventable disease-
Diphtheria
*research plan- Unavailability of vaccination for Diphtheria and
the causes why health care workers are not receiving the
vaccination at their employment at selected area.
*Introduction- Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection which
affects the nose, tongue, throat and the airway. It starts like a
common cold and becomes vulnerable. It spreads easily from one
person to another.Vaccination will help to prevent the transmission
of disease.
*History of disease- Diphtheria was first identified/described in
fifth century by Hipocrates and it was the leading cause for the
death especially for the children in 1880's.The antitoxin was found
in 1890's.Diphtheria toxoid vaccine found in 1920's.
*social or behavioural antecedents related to disease-once
Diphtheria infects, the toxins spreads all over the blood stream
and causes to spread the infection through out the body.
*Diphtheria mainly spreads through droplet infectious
process.
*proposed research plan-Unavailability of vaccination for
Diphtheria and the causes why health care workers are not receiving
the vaccination at their employment at selected area.
*sampling plan-longitudinal survey
* strengths and weaknesses of chosen research design-gather data at
a priod of time, then researcher analyses changes and
describes.
-continuous /repeated person may not available to clarify the
data,if needed.
