Is scientific illiteracy a problem in our
country?
Yes. I agree with majority of my classmates. I have learnt from
others and myself too have witnessed at several occasions how wrong
people sometimes decides lacking complete information of things.
They are even fooled by others easily.
Title:
TRAIN BRAIN MORE SCIENCE
Key points:
- Scientific literacy refers to the knowledge and understanding
of scientific concepts and processes which are required in our
daily lives for personal decision making, participation in civic
and cultural activities and in economic productivity too.
- Sadly, our countrymen, by and large, suffer from the scientific
illiteracy, even without knowing or agreeing to it perfectly.
- Two decisions taken in the similar situation, one in light of
scientific thinking and other in an orthodox way, could be far
apart from each other.
- Every decision we make leaves a small or big impact on the way
we live. Hence every decision has to be made in well informed and
orderly manner.
- We see a lot of scientific illiteracy around in our country.
Barring the exceptions, people's approach towards life-situations
has remained imperialistic or customary. This must be replaced by
the modern way of thinking based upon time-tested scientific
principles.
- We can remedy scientific illiteracy by taking following
measures:
- Make lessons in science more experiential and less
theoretical
- Identify people's areas of lacking knowledge which make them
suffer the most
- Prioritize these areas for the social awareness campaign
- Convince people that for having a scientific attitude towards
things or for leaning science they won't need to join schools
necessarily
- Through public propaganda, spread, what big changes people can
make in their lives by way of logical and orderly imagination
- Make people feel proud of thinking in scientific ways.
- Inspire them with real life case studies
- State must run public awareness programs for promoting
scientific attitude amongst people
