how can illiteracy affect development plans in Ghana
Literacy rate is one of the main indicator of Economics development of a country determined by UNDP. Human Development Index also considered literacy is the major components of literacy . Moreover we consider the developed nations and developing nations we can understand the importance of literacy in their development process. If one country has literate population then the country not only educational sector but the Economic, Social, Political structure of that country shows developmental path.They can easy to attain the Sustainable Development.
If we examine the approximate literacy rate of developed and Ghana 99.7percent and 79percent respectively. So that the development gap is so big. In Ghana male literacy about 77 percentage but female literacy is very low about 57percent and below. This shows the gender disparity exist in the country. The gender gap also indicating the underdevelopment of the country.
If one country is consist of literate population . That population have a good choice of employment, industry they can innovate more for their country . Literate society make a perfect social security and they are well known about the morals and so reduced crime and social violence like domestic violence and rape,child and other sexual abuses. Moreover they are well aware about their health and cleanliness of personal and environmental hygiene. They are aware about family planning , access to healthcare . Literate population are known about how to manage the economic situation of a country they are known about their responsibility too. So that these reason literate people are the strength an inevitable part of the economic development . One important and strong reason behind the underdevelopment of the country is low literacy or illiteracy. Literate means one who compulsory complete the elementary education atleast. Education is most promising indicator of development of each country.
